The deal in plain English. Use HausMate to run your shared home; here is what to expect from us, and what we expect from you.

The short version. HausMate helps your house coordinate bills, chores and house basics. We never hold or move your money, you settle up between yourselves. We are not part of your tenancy, and nothing you do here changes what you owe your landlord. The app is early and offered as-is during the pilot. Be fair to your housemates, and the data you add is yours.

1. Using HausMate

You sign in with a one-tap email link or, where offered, your Google account, so keep access to the account you use secure. Google sign-in only authenticates you to HausMate; it does not give HausMate access to your Google contacts, Drive or Calendar. You are responsible for what you and your house add to HausMate, and for using it fairly with the people you live with. You need to be 18 or over to create an account.

2. What HausMate is, and is not

HausMate is a coordination tool for shared homes. It helps you split and track who owes who, run a cleaning rota, and keep a shared house record. HausMate does not hold, move, or process your money, you pay each other directly. HausMate is not a bank, a payment service, a debt collector, or a provider of legal or financial advice.

HausMate is not part of your tenancy. We are not your landlord or their agent, and we are not a party to any tenancy agreement. Nothing you do in HausMate changes your tenancy, your notice period, or what you owe your landlord. Leaving a Haus here is not giving notice, and joining one does not make you a tenant. If you want to know where you stand on your own tenancy, Shelter is free and independent.

What the app shows is your house's own record. Balances in HausMate are what your house has agreed between yourselves. They are not a legal statement of who owes what. On a shared (joint) tenancy your landlord can ask any one tenant, or their guarantor, for the whole rent, and a share shown in the app is not a limit on that.

3. Your house's data

The information your house adds belongs to your house. We handle it as described in our Privacy Notice. You can export or delete it by emailing us. Please only add information you have the right to share with your housemates.

4. Fair use

Do not use HausMate to harass anyone, to misrepresent what is owed, or to break the law. We may suspend access that puts other people or the service at risk.

5. Haus listings

Listings are written by users, not checked by us. A Haus listing is created by the people in it. We do not inspect properties, verify ownership, or check anyone's identity, and we do not vet landlords. Where we show a fact about a Haus, such as how many people are in it or when it was set up, that comes from our own records and means nothing more than that. It is not a safety check and it is not a guarantee.

Rental fraud is real and it targets people your age. View in person before you commit, and never send a deposit or rent before you have seen the place. If a listing looks wrong, report it in the app and we will look at it.

6. Pilot, and availability

HausMate is in an early Bristol pilot. It is provided as-is: features may change, and there may be interruptions. We work hard to keep it reliable, but we cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free during the pilot.

7. Our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, HausMate is not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, or for amounts your housemates do or do not pay each other, since we are a coordination tool and not party to your payments. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes and contact
